PROJECTS
STRUCTURAL ENGINEER RESPONSIBLE FOR DESIGN AND PLAN PREPARATION:
STRUCTURES, BRIDGES, HIGHWAYS
MANAGE CONCEPT AND DESIGN DEVELOPMENT WITH BUDGET AND SCHEDULE RESPONSIBILITIES
HIGHWAYS AND BRIDGES
Developed a remote, long term, computer monitoring system using sensors and telemetry to determine the response of structures to their dynamic loading.
Holds US and Canadian patents for insitu electronic bridge and structural analysis.
Monitored 1000', 12 span, filled concrete arch bridge, the Royal Park, for 12 months for the Florida Department of Transportation in Palm Beach, Florida.
Monitored a 700' glass and steel cable stayed bridge, the Sundial, designed by Santiago Calatrava on its opening day, July 4, 2004.
Monitored a 1928 Scherzer single leaf rolling bascule railroad bridge in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for 16 months while a double rail bridge was built immediately adjacent to it.
Designed an American Counsel of Engineering Companies of Kansas award wining single point diamond bridge interchange in Garden City, Kansas.
Monitored the movement that was created by a 25t bridge crane atop a 120' tower for an oil refinery. The tower translation and frequencies were within acceptable limits. No modifications were required, allowing a planned facility renovation to proceed without interruption.
Directed the design of the interchange located at the intersection of K-96 and Greenwich Road for the Kansas Department of Transportation and Sedgwick County, Kansas, Bureau of Public Services.
Developed the concept and directed the design of the McConnell Air Force Base pedestrian bridge, Wichita, Kansas. The bridge was the winner of the 2001 Kansas Chapter/American Institute's Concrete Construction Award-Bridges and a 2002 Air Mobility command Design Award from the Kansas Chapter/American Concrete Institute.
Directed the design of the award winning bridge, 29th at the Little Arkansas, Wichita, Kansas. A prestressed beam bridge with innovative post-tensioning in the piers. The bridge deck appears as a city street with river overlooks and pedestrian areas.
The Transportation Division was the National award winner for "Best Urban Arterial Concrete Paving in the United States in 1995" presented by the American Concrete Pavers Association, Summer 1996, for the design of Pancake Boulevard, Liberal, Kansas. This was an extremely complicated project requiring traffic through construction.
Principle-in-charge of the design of K-96 Highway between Beaumont and Piedmont-award winner in "State and Primary Roads" category from the Missouri/Kansas Chapter of the ACPA as the best portland cement concrete pavement constructed on 1997 in the State of Kansas.
Directed the concept development and design of an extended diamond interchange for US 50, including a steel girder balanced cantilever bridge, Garden City, Kansas.
Developed the concept and directed the design of a wood laminate suspended arch pedestrian bridge in Swanson Park, Wichita, Kansas.
Implemented structural electronic monitoring of the South Broadway Railroad Overpass, Wichita, Kansas, a 800' continuous slab bridge for 18 months. Designed the structure's rehabilitation using CFRP Leadlines for the post tensioning of the pier beams, the first such of CFRP use in the United States. The bridge is one of the first four continuous slab bridges constructed in the United States.
Co-authored article concerning the South Broadway Railroad Overpass rehabilitation entitled "City of Wichita Implements Pioneering Rehab Technologies", Concrete International Magazine, November 2000 issue, pages 38-42.
Presenter of the Structural Integrity System at the International Bridge Conference, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, 1996.
Presenter of the Structural Integrity System at the American Society of Civil Engineers Structures Congress, Portland, Oregon, 1997.
Design and rehabilitation of all bridge structures, including cast-in-place concrete, from Wichita, KS, to Augusta, KS, on US 54.
Design of a long span continuous welded steel plate girder bridge for an expressway interchange.
Design for the widening of a prestressed beam bridge from a 26' roadway to 52' roadway. The structure was the first prestressed bridge built in Kansas.
Initiated and operated a bridge program for Harvey County, Kansas, for three years that included all aspects of the installation of a bridge from initial design to precasting, driving piling and placing the precast units.
Set up an asphalt plant and supervised the production of and laying of paving material for three years for Harvey County, Kansas.
Design of West Country Road Bridge Replacement for the city of Columbus, Kansas.
Prepared the design for a special heavy loaded horizontally curved Kansas Department of Transportation interstate bridge for transportation of loaded earth moving machines.
Prepared the design of a rigid frame interstate highway bridge.
Extensive computer programming experience in structural analysis of bridges, buildings and roadway excavation excavation quantities by balancing excavation.
STRUCTURES AND OTHER PROJECTS
Design of aluminum and welded steel overhead sign structures for interstate highways in the seven states. The span sign structures extend to 240 feet and the cantilevers to 50 feet.
Monitored 1.4 million pound roof loading transfer from existing pipe truss to new jib on Kemper Arena Expansion Project during seating increase renovation, Kansas City, Missouri.
Developed and designed a system for the moving and replacement of a large three-story high machine by construction of a rail system for Cargill, Inc., Wichita, Kansas. The plant was off-line for only one day instead of three months required by conventional methods.
Developed the concept and designed the foundation and supports for the first Air Force KC-135 tanker aircraft. The static in-flight presentation is at McConnell Air Force Base, Wichita, Kansas.
Designed the foundation and supports for the Boeing 707, nicknamed the "Vomit Comet", for NASA. The static in-flight presentation is at Ellington Field, Houston, Texas.
Developed a concept and design for the replacement of a large culvert under the main tracks of the Union Pacific Railroad. The line was closed for only one day.
Assisted in the concept and design of the relocation of a alcohol plant from Louisiana to Nebraska.

Designed new earthen dams at Higginsville, Bloomfield, and Jacksonville, Missouri, in conjunction with the design of the new Missouri Veterans Cemeteries.
Performed City Lake Dam analysis, Augusta, Kansas.
Design of foundation for large vibrating machinery in electric generating stations. The structure cost was substantially reduced by use of a finite element analysis and a soil-structure interaction model.
Structural and site design of Wind Spirit Gateway, two 4-ton fan-shaped sculptures rising 18 feet into the air, built for the City of Wichita's Main Street Gateway.
Design and assisted in construction of 100 car grain loading facility with three miles of track.
